The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for portions of Colorado, which may impact some or all Aims Community College campus locations. Please take note of the following advisory details.
High Wind Warning – Aims Community College Campuses
Day One - Monday and Monday Night
The mountains and foothills will see strengthening winds tonight, particularly after midnight, when a High Wind Warning goes into effect. Wind-prone locations, especially north of I-70 and east of the Continental Divide, are expected to see gusts 65 to 85 mph through sunrise Tuesday. Travel will be difficult for high profile vehicles, and damage to trees and power lines will be possible.
Days Two through Seven - Tuesday through Sunday
Strong winds will continue across the mountains and foothills, peaking during the day Tuesday with maximum gusts 75 to 90 mph. At times, some of these winds may spread into adjacent lower elevations, especially west of I-25 near the base of the foothills, and across northern Larimer and Weld Counties.
Light snow expected Wednesday and Thursday for the northern mountains. Strong winds return Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with gusts up to 75 mph possible at times across the high country. Wind-prone areas could see gusty winds as well along the foothills.

High Wind Safety
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
- Secure Loose Objects: Ensure that items which could be blown around or damaged by
the wind are properly secured. - Drive with Caution: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-
profile vehicles. Exercise extra caution while traveling.
Safety on Campus:
- Exiting Your Vehicle: Be cautious when exiting your vehicle. Keep a hand on the door
to prevent it from swinging open due to the wind. - Entering Buildings: Ensure that you maintain control of doors when entering or exiting
buildings to prevent doors from swinging open suddenly and causing damage. - Be Alert for Flying Debris: Be aware of potential hazards from airborne objects in high
winds.
High Wind Safety While Driving:
- Keep Both Hands on the Wheel: Maintain control of your vehicle and slowdown in
windy conditions. - Watch for Flying Debris: Remain alert for objects that may be blown onto the road.
- Visibility may be reduced: Dust and debris may obstruct your vision. Drive cautiously.
- Maintain a Safe Distance: Keep extra space between vehicles. Strong gusts can push
cars out of their lanes. - High-Profile Vehicles: Extra care should be taken if driving a truck, van, or SUV as
these vehicles are more prone to being pushed or even flipped by high winds.
If you encounter any damage on campus, please report it to Campus Safety and Security at 970-539-2171 or security@aims.edu.
Employees and students will be notified of any delays, closures, or remote work and learning options through the RAVE notification system, our social media channels, and local news outlets. Stay safe and take necessary precautions to protect yourself and others during these hazardous
weather conditions.
